Leader of the little adventure party, a girl who takes on leadership responsibility, but seems the youngest among the group, looking only twelve or thirteen. She speaks in an unusually mature tone and carries herself like an experienced traveler and has the unquestioned trust of her party members. She always wears a fluffy white outfit regardless of the season, and somehow it neither gets dirty nor needs frequent changing. Sometimes, Arcana speaks in the tone reminiscent of an elderly, perhaps as a result of the strong influence of her elders?

Arcana has a great fondness for, or rather is used to, taking care of others. No matter if someone has gotten injured in her humble adventure team or if she encounters people who need help while traveling on the train, she will always go forward to lend a hand without a second thought. In addition, the knowledge she has is also especially comprehensive, ranging from common healing magic powers of the Empire to making cough syrup from ordinary herbs.
Perhaps just like the idea of "what's good for you may not always be easy to swallow," the medicine Arcana prescribes is usually highly effective, albeit incredibly bitter. Whenever a child complains that the medicine is too nasty, Arcana will find candy or any snack that can take the edge off the bitterness and coax them into finishing the medicine in exchange for a sweet reward.
However, youngsters like the Conductor, who's constantly hard at work, would hardly ever fall for that. Arcana generally doesn't stop anyone from working, but she will solemnly remind them not to overtax themselves, for health should always take precedence.
"You'd better not get so dog-tired that you doze off on the roadside, or else a giant eagle might just snatch you back to its nest... This is something that has actually happened before."
As such, when Arcana sees someone who's showing signs of overexhaustion, she'll force them to take a rest, though there, of course, wouldn't be any bird bigger than Cook on the train.
The children whom Arcana took care of all love her and frequently pester her to tell them stories, to which she never once refuses. Just like the bedtime stories often told to children, her story always begins with, "Once upon a time..."
However, the stories she narrates are enriched with a tinge of extra realism compared with those written in fairy tales. No other books have ever described how the blood that drips from a slaughtered dragon isn't red, nor do they bring up how the paladin has to trek down a particular hill barefoot after accidentally losing one shoe during the journey.
Had she not personally witnessed these scenes, how could she possibly know these details? Could she have lived in the era where dragons and paladins existed?
"...If that hero is still alive, they should still be living there now," is typically how her story ends.
Can heroes from hundreds of years ago truly still be freely and blissfully living somewhere? Arcana's stories never fail to fascinate and offer a sense of security. Her listeners are willing to believe that if the people in the stories are immortal, they'll certainly keep living an ordinary life inconspicuously after completing such an awe-inspiring adventure.
If you're looking to learn more about the Empire's lore, Arcana is the perfect person to turn to. Of course, if it's merely general knowledge of the Empire that you need, Livia will be able to answer your questions. In fact, there are several appropriate people on the train to inquire about the living conditions of various people in the Empire. Yet, only Arcana can acutely connect the dots between different matters, then trace them back to specific folklore from hundreds of years ago and tell you about its origin.
She also has all sorts of knowledge, a significant part of which is pretty beneficial in real life. There's nothing that can stump her about the Empire, like their traditional agriculture, medical knowledge, and the tons of recipes for different food... If you look at it in another way, a place more suitable for her is probably a hut in a border village of the Empire than on The Eternal, which is continuously on the move.
After some time of adapting and research, Arcana has already mastered the skill of using natural ground materials to make food and medicine. Although she regularly grumbles about how "the ground materials are really lacking in mana," she still manages to serve exceptionally tasty food each time. Even the dining carriage transforms into a wonderful, magical place whenever she stands on the footstool to work with pots and pans by the stove.
Once upon a time, under the brilliant light of the Wishing Tower, a young woman gave birth to a child upon paying homage to the tower.
As the child grew up, people noticed that her skin was marked with an amazing pattern and that she had exceedingly great powers, so much so that monsters adored her. They wouldn't attack her and would instead become her friend.
Despite countless years going by, the girl still looked like a child. She left her hometown and went on a journey, even changing her name, but her physical appearance remained unchanged. It was one thing that was constant in spite of the uncountable adventures she had gone on and the numerous friends she lost to the natural cycle of life.
Undoubtedly, she was regarded as abnormal, and that thoroughly devastated her. Even though she went on to meet a new friend, the forlorn child still cried unceasingly, as she knew that her new friend would eventually die before she did, too. To her shock, this friend held her hand and requested one thing from her: Don't be trapped by the misery of immortality. Please be happy in your future journeys.
The forlorn child agreed. From then on, she vanished from the public eye without anyone ever knowing where she had gone.
......
"If that child is still alive, she should still be living somewhere in this world."
My name is Arcana. Just a traveler you find anywhere.
Why? Need something? I guess it can't be helped... Ah well, let's go.
Oh? Isn't that Conductor? Here, over here. I just received some local specialties that look delicious. Have some.
Hey, Conductor, young people should eat more, chew thoroughly, and not be picky.
If there's work to be done, I will be the first to respond. Life, well, needs a little excitement sometimes.
Phew, it's really hot and annoying. Just wear less? Hmm, it's not something that can be solved so easily...
Prolonged sitting leads to backaches. Here, lie down over there. I will give you a massage.
Your subordinates would make fun of you with such messy hair, rascal. Come here. Let me tidy it up for you.
Phew, you rascal... Every time I see you, I must be on edge. My goodness, young people are so reckless.
What's wrong? Did Doodoo and the others cause trouble for you again? I'll teach them a lesson. Don't be too mad at them.
Even if the body is immortal, the heart still feels the pain of partings. Immortality is not that great.
As long as you stay somewhere, you will form bonds that are hard to sever. That's why I prefer to keep traveling instead of staying in one place.
You don't need to endure pain when you feel it. I'll accept your tears and forgive your weakness and vulnerability. Good child, everything's alright.
Interested in my adventure stories? They are too long to be bedtime stories for little rascals... Looks like I'll have to stay by your side until I finish telling them.
I will walk this journey with all of you.
Move aside, little rascals.
I did not live to this age for nothing.
My! Is that all you have to give, young one?
Underestimating "little ones" could be a fatal mistake.
Ahem, my bad... I'll get going for now!
Goodness, did I get carried away? How careless...
Ever heard of "with age comes wisdom"? Winning the title of MVP or something is just a piece of cake for me.
