This document certifies that Pelota (born on September 5, ■■■■, adult) currently holds the position of Special Agent within Gardener. She has been a regular employee of our organization for the past two consecutive years. Effective immediately, Pelota is designated as a crew member aboard the Eternal for a period of ■■ days. During her assignment, she will comply with the laws and regulations of bonfire cities and the Eternal. We undertake to indemnify her against any accidental damages within the scope of the contract. The terms of this arrangement are detailed in the document titled "Memorandum on Matters Concerning Pelota's Special Dispatch."

Upon her arrival on the train, the first thing Pelota asked was, "Oh, are all the electronic devices on your train insured?" The second thing she did was present a substantial stack of documents, bearing Anita's departmental insignias and seals, with a cheerful smile, saying, "Please sign all these documents!"
Even Livia, who is experienced in onboarding new crew members and managing paperwork, found this task challenging. After spending the entire day collaborating with reliable crew members familiar with contracts, they agreed to have Conductor sign the documents. It was one of the rare times Conductor had to sign so many papers outside of the trading center, leading to a sore hand.
Box's analysis of the contracts revealed that they were not designed to hold the Conductor liable for breaches or to demand excessive compensation from the Eternal. Instead, they seemed more like agreements outlining procedures for managing situations where Pelota might cause a power outage on the train or significant environmental damage. The contracts also detailed insurance claim processes and reimbursements. Paired with Pelota's words, these documents led to some contemplation...
"It feels more like a universal manual for taking care of a kid who's away from home!"
Box confidently summarized the essence of the documents. As for Pelota, she wore a gentle smile, seemingly believing that none of the situations outlined in the contracts would ever come to pass.
Despite holding the title of Special Commissioner, Pelota often comes across more like an enthusiastic adventurer in her everyday life. She forms a close bond with Caroline, another member of Gardener, and establishes a strong connection with Verlaine, who is of imperial lineage. Pelota's enthusiasm shines during happy moments, as she animatedly walks through the carriages, sharing her travel stories with the crew and asking about unexplored destinations—appearing much like an ordinary girl.
Additionally, she has a helpful nature. Her ascension ability, "Attractive Field", enables her to control the electromagnetic environment around her, thus allowing her to manipulate metal objects within a certain range. While her ability can come in handy, she struggles to control it precisely. For example, she may try to retrieve a pen nearby but often ends up attracting various unintended items, leading to potentially hazardous situations. Fortunately, Pelota is quick to deactivate her ability in such emergencies, preventing harm to others, although the collateral damage is often...
"I didn't do that on purpose! I... I'll help clean up this mess!"
"In my opinion, this is the perfect time for the claims clause to kick in!"
Box remarks, reflecting on the aftermath of Pelota's ability.
Pelota remains shrouded in mystery. According to her documents and contract, she is an adult, even a few years older than Livia and Conductor. However, her behavior is notably more childish than one might expect for her age, and her petite physique resembles that of a young adolescent.
Notably, her ascension ability is exceptionally powerful. During the first encounter at the ONEderland Hotel, she eliminated all the Chaos Remains in the Endless Path unscratched, aside from a few scares from the eerie environment. Furthermore, the contents of her contract and her own statements suggest that she once caused a complete blackout in a large neighborhood, indicating her abilities far surpass those of an ordinary ascender.
Furthermore, her cane-shaped weapon and the luminous device on her head add to the intrigue. According to analyses from other members of Anita, the cane is a specialized prototype weapon designed to complement her powers. While the device on her head may resemble a fluorescent tube, it is actually a sophisticated electrical discharge mechanism to help manage the voltage load on her brain.
"What will happen if you remove this device? Well, I'm not a biotech expert, so I can't give you a definite answer, but I believe it might cause her ascension ability to overwhelm her brain... Such strain could destroy a person's sanity in no time. What's your take on this? What do you think she'll become?"

"Little Ballie, full of glee. Skirt a-twirlin', boots so free. Running fast, ahead she shoots. Cheeks ablaze, in her cute boots!"
Mom?
"Through oceans wide and mountains tall. She never falters, never shall fall..."
Mom!
"Until..."
Until what, Mom?
"Until you've traveled to all corners of the world... Until then..."

In Pelota's dreams, a nursery rhyme hummed by her mother always echoes. From her earliest memories, her mother held her close, singing softly to lull her to sleep.
Pelota's development has been slower compared to her peers. She recalls her mother's ruby-hued eyes, telling her stories about their hometown—the gardens blooming beneath the Wishing Tower, and tales of magical races and spells, like something out of a fairy tale. Her father, a dedicated Anita researcher, always found a way to balance his work and family life. Despite his demanding job, he would come home to play with her, often crafting whimsical inventions for her amusement. Pelota enjoyed a happy childhood in their cozy home in a bonfire city.
However, tragedy struck when her father disappeared during an uprising caused by demi-humans. Stricken with grief, her mother fell into despair and eventually left, never to return. Fortunately, Anita personnel intervened in time, taking Pelota in and accepting her as a unique member of their ranks. Perhaps due to her hybrid heritage, she matured more slowly, both mentally and physically.
Throughout the years, Pelota never lost faith in her absent parents. She held on to the belief that "Mom and Dad would never abandon their Ballie!" She believed the nursery rhyme was a promise of their eventual return. As she learned more about geography, she became convinced that the world's roundness would eventually bring her loved ones back to her. She believed that if she traveled far enough, she would one day reunite with them. Viewing her mother's lullaby as a beacon of hope, Pelota set out on her journey with determination.
In the midst of her endless travels, Pelota has chosen to become a companion to the Eternal. So, please remain by her side as she continues her journey around the world.
I'm Pelota, but you can call me Ballie if you'd like to! I'm pretty awesome and definitely useful!... Oh, by the way, are all the electronic devices on your train insured?
I'm on my way! What's this? Let me tinker with it for a bit!
My cane... Well, I'm not great with numbers and letters, so I don't know its model or anything. But trust me, I know how to use it best. You can totally rely on me, Conductor!
Are you handing out candy, Conductor? You'll share some with me too, right? Right? Yeah! I knew you're the best! Can I be the first next time?
My "Ballie Force Field" can attract metal objects and transform them into balls. It's super handy for grabbing things from a distance, though it might accidentally pick up other stuff too!
Flee Alarm? No, I don't have one because I've been breaking electronic devices since I was a kid... but no worries, Conductor! I know how to protect myself! If we encounter Chaos Remains, I'll just shoo them away!
Many crew members seem to have lived long lives, like Ms. Arcana and Ms. Lissandra... Oops! It's impolite to discuss people's ages! Huh? Me? Why not take a guess, Conductor? And no peeking at my profile!
It seems like I haven't grown much. The last time I was measured was during my spring check-up... What year? Hmm... maybe last year... The birds returned early last year...
The reason I'm traveling, hmm... Alright, I'll spill the beans to you, Conductor. Look at this ball! We're here right now, and we'll circle around the ball like this and come back, right? So Mom says, as long as we keep moving forward, we're bound to meet the one we've been searching for!
There are so many members who have been to the Empire, Conductor. They say the Imperial people are skilled in magic... If I get the chance, I'd love to visit the Empire and witness their way of life with my own eyes!
When Anita's people took me from my home, I accidentally went a bit overboard with my powers and caused a blackout in the block around me... But I didn't hurt anyone, you know? I just threw everyone to the sky, and once I saw they were good people, I gently brought them back down!
"Theoretically, you could crush the enemy with a large amount of metal, but Pelota, don't ever do that unless it's an emergency."… someone told me before departure. I know what to do when necessary, don't worry, Conductor.
Hey! There goes the signing pen! See? My powers do come in handy... Oh, wait! A frying pan is flying too! Get down, Conductor!
......When will we meet again......I've been to many places......Ah! Conductor! I, I'm just a little bit......missing my mom......
Time for new adventures!
Let's go~
Looks fun over there!
Ballie Force Field! Activate!
Don't get smacked, everyone!
Whoaaaahh! I got a bit carried away...!
Time to bail, Ballie!
I think I did pretty well this time, and I didn't smack anyone, mostly! See? I told you I've got skills! Just have faith in me!
